Másaní’s Massage

Native Health Initiative would like to introduce our newest program, Másaní’s Massage. Másaní’s Massage was originally started in 2019 as a heartfelt initiative by our Program Leader, Shannon Clark-Holiday, to provide free chair massages to the elderly at senior centers located on pueblos and reservations. This wonderful program is now under the Indigenizing Wellness focus area of NHI.

Many elders experience social isolation due to geographical remoteness or lack of community resources. These factors contribute to disparities in health outcomes and quality of life among Native American elders. Senior Centers on pueblos and reservations provide a central gathering point and access to social connectedness for many people.

By working with Senior Centers, we can reach a significant portion of the elder population and provide them with much-needed benefits such as pain reduction, stress relief, improved circulation, and enhanced mood.

Additionally, massage can decrease stress and promote relaxation, which may contribute to overall wellness and disease prevention. Chair massage provides a convenient and accessible option for elders who may have mobility limitations or prefer a seated position.
